The Houston Rockets ended Miami's eight-game winning streak on Tuesday, and the Heat (43-17) haven't been able to recover. They return from their road trip to host the Wizards, whom the Heat hope to snap their three-game losing streak to after a 95-88 loss in overtime on Sunday to Chicago.
"I dropped the ball. It's like a double entendre," James said of losing the ball during the final play of regulation, according to ESPN. "I actually dropped the ball, but I dropped the ball on my team. I had it. That's a great play. I give a lot of credit to Jimmy (Butler). He got his hand on the ball, but I had the lane. I had the layup."
Washington (33-29), meanwhile, appears set for a postseason berth. The Wizards have won eight of their last 10 games including two straight.
Despite likely earning a playoff spot, the Wizards still have lessons to learn - like how to close out a game. Washington started the second quarter on Saturday against Milwaukee with a 71-43 lead, but they barely escaped with a 104-101 win.
"It's unfortunate that we have to learn a lesson from this game," Wizards swingman Martell Webster said, via ESPN. "No disrespect to that team that's over there. Milwaukee's just in a dysfunctional state. These are games that we know we're supposed to win by a large margin. In this league, you have to kick them when they're down."
Depending on how Washington finishes the season, Monday could be a first-round preview of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
