Kate Hudson denies ever asking co-star Matthew McConaughey to wear deodorant, revealing that she doesn't use deodorant either.
During an appearance this week on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," the 45-year-old actress and singer addressed the longtime rumors about McConaughey's body odor.
“Was that old urban legend true that you forced Matthew McConaughey to wear deodorant while filming 'Fool’s Gold'?” Cohen asked, from a fan-submitted question.
“No. He doesn’t wear deodorant, and by the way, I don’t either,” Hudson replied. "We’re au naturels."
She did admit that they "got so close" while filming the 2008 adventure comedy that she could smell McConaughey, 54, "from a mile" away.
The rumor apparently started when McConaughey himself said during an interview with Playboy that Hudson had asked him to wear salt rock, which is said to absorb moisture and eliminate odors, though he refused.
McConaughey has long been open about eschewing deodorant, and has said the women in his life have no problems with his natural odor.
Another of McConaughey's female co-stars admitted sniffing him after hearing he didn't use deodorant.
Yvette Nicole Brown, who appeared in "Tropic Thunder" along with McConaughey, revealed her impression of his smell on an episode of "The Jess Cagle Show" on SiriusXM in 2021.
"I remember that Matthew McConaughey said that he did not use deodorant and that he didn't have an odor. So my first thought is, 'I'm going to get as close as I can to him to see if he's right'," she said.
"He did not have an odor. He smells like granola and good living," she revealed. "He has a sweet, sweet scent that is just him and it's not musty or crazy."
