One person was fatally shot and two were wounded when gunfire erupted in the parking lot of a Hindu house of worship in Massachusetts early Saturday.
There's no indication the deadly violence is tied to the Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Lowell, about 20 miles northwest of Boston.
Instead, it appeared that the bullets began flying after a fight broke out among a group of people gathered in the lot, according to authortities.
No arrests have been made and an investigation was underway.
Several cars, alcohol bottles and a pile of clothes were visible in an area surrounded by yellow police tape, NBC Boston reported.
A black sedan appeared to have been struck by several bullets, according to local TV station WCVB.
Cops found two people shot when they responded to reports of shots fired around 4:50 a.m., Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon said in a joint statement.
Both victims were rushed to a local hospital where a 43-year-old Lowell man was pronounced dead.
The other victim, a 35-year-old man, remained hospitalized with unspecified wounds, and a 26-year-old woman who suffered minor wounds went for treatment at a hospital on her own, authorities said.
The shootings disrupted plans for a Saturday event expected to draw about a thousand people to the temple and police were directing attendees around the crime scene, NBC Boston said.
