'Game Of Thrones' Ending: George R.R. Martin Admits Show Creators Know How Series Will End: 'I Can Not Let Them Catch Up With Me'

"Game of Thrones" has an ending and it's probably going to upset you in ways you didn't think possible.

In the latest issue of Vanity Fair, George R. R. Martin's most hated and loved characters grace the cover. Inside the issue, the author dished about the grand finale of his popular fiction-novels turned HBO series.

Martin explained the series is catching up to the five novels (two more on the way), which means there is an end in sight. Martin isn't a fan of the idea.

"Last year we went out to Santa Fe for a week to sit down with him [Martin] and just talk through where things are going, because we don't know if we are going to catch up and where exactly that would be," show co-creator David Benioff told Vanity Fair.

"If you know the ending, then you can lay the groundwork for it," he added. "And so we want to know how everything ends. We want to be able to set things up. So we just sat down with him and literally went through every character."

The show creators might know the gist of the "Game of Thrones" ending, but Martin wants them to be just as surprised as the fans of his series.

"I can give them the broad strokes of what I intend to write, but the details aren't there yet. I'm hopeful that I can not let them catch up with me," Martin told Vanity Fair.

There is another issue at hand the show's creators must deal with: age. "Game Of Thrones" has many child stars, but time in the novels passes by slowly. The child actors are obviously growing while the show continues.

"This is a serious concern," Martin told Vanity Fair. "Maisie was the same age as Arya when it started, but now Maisie is a young woman and Arya is still 11. Time is passing very slowly in the books and very fast in real life."

"Game of Thrones" season four will premiere on April 6.
