Jawbone UP24 Finally Receives Android Support Through An App In Google Play Store

Jawbone launched a new UP app for its popular UP24 fitness tracker on Google Play Store, making it easy to access the data stored on the tracker without plugging it into a computer.

Jawbone has finally launched a new UP app for Android users so accessing the data stored on the UP24 health tracker is more feasible. The Android support for the popular heath tracking device comes four months after it was first launched in November last year. Like any other tracker or a smartwatch, UP24 relies on its companion UP app for Android users to display movement, sleep and food data, recorded by the tracker in real-time.

The UP24 previously supported Android users but lacked a companion app, which required users to physically plug the UP24 into a PC to access the captured data. Apple users were the first to receive the accompanying UP app last year.

"We believe that helping people understand the context and meaning of their data is key in helping to make sustained behavior changes. Through our investment in data science we have been able to provide personalized insights to help nudge people to meet their sleep or activity goals," Travis Bogard, vice president of product management and strategy for Jawbone, said in a press release.

"Now with the launch of UP24 on Android, our entire community can enjoy the benefits of these insights in real-time, with continuous feedback and in-the-moment notifications to help them achieve their goals. Android users have been incredibly active in the UP community, and we're thrilled to bring UP24 to the Android platform."

The UP24 tracker features a Bluetooth 4.0 LE connection to track the wearer's physical activity and reminds users to accomplish set goals. The tracker also suggests exercise if the wearer spends all day sitting and advises on sleeping early to get proper rest. The battery is not a problem with the UP24, as it lasts 7 days on a single charge.

Android users can download the UP app from Google Play Store for free, but requires smartphones to be running on at least 4.3 Jelly Bean version. The UP24 band starts at $149.99, with color options in either black or orange.
