Explosion In New York City Causes Building Collapse

Part of a building in upper Manhattan collapsed following an explosion on Wednesday morning, ABC News reported.

The incident occurred in the East Harlem section of the city. Residents reported hearing a loud explosion around 9:30 a.m., accompanied by fire and smoke.

"For weeks we've been smelling gas," Ashley Rivera, 21, told the New York Daily News. "We saw people flying out of the window. ... Those are my neighbors."

At least four people have been hospitalized for injuries from the explosion, according to NBC News. Additionally, CNN is reporting that nearly 11 people suffered minor injuries.

One person was transported to Harlem Hospital for serious trauma, CBS New York reported.

The Metro-North subway stop was suspended after debris from the damaged building fell onto the tracks, the New York Times reported.

Many residents and passersby took photos and uploaded them to Twitter, using the hash tag #Harlem.
