World No. 6 Murray defeated both Lukas Rosol and Jiri Vesely in three sets to earn a spot in the fourth round. His win against Vesely, however, nearly pushed the Scot to the brink.

"It was a poor match, so many breaks of serve," Murray told BBC of his 6-7(2-7) 6-4 6-4 win. "I was up a double break in the first set and didn't get it, which is obviously disappointing. I basically just had to try and find a way to win the match in the end because the quality and the rhythm of the match was not really there from start to finish.

"The best way of building confidence really is by winning matches when you aren't playing well."

Murray's quest for his first Indian Wells title became slightly easier on Monday with the early exit of Rafael Nadal, who defeated Murray in the 2009 Indian Wells final.

Murray's next obstacle, though, is World No. 11 Raonic.

After being sidelined more than a month with an ankle injury, Raonic looks to be improving every match. The 23-year-old Canadian beat Edouard Roger-Vasselin in three sets before taking two sets to defeat Alejandro Falla in the third round.

"I'm playing well this week, better with each match," Raonic said after his win against Falla, via the Ottawa Citizen. "I'm proud to be back on court again. I'm happy to be back and really happy to be playing so well, so quickly."

Raonic won two of his three matches against Murray, including their last meeting in 2012 at the Tokyo semifinals.

"I have to go out there and play well, that's the main thing to focus on," Raonic said. "I have to really take care of my serve, and try to sort of make the most of the situations as they occur."
