Suspected Armed Bank Robber Arrested After Posting Facebook Selfies Of Him Holding Gun

The next time you're thinking about robbing a bank, do not post a selfie while holding the gun used in the crime.

One Brooklyn man did exactly that, and he is now in police custody after allegedly robbing a bank in Michigan.

Officials say Jules Bahler went into Chemical Bank on Columbus Avenue in Bay City on March 5. Armed with a submachine gun, Bahler robbed the bank and left with nearly $7,000, according to mlive.com.

But that same day Bahler, 21, posted pictures on his Facebook page of him holding the same gun.

"Bought my first house And chopper today," Bahler wrote on Facebook in the caption for the photos. "Life's great."

Authorities suspected that Bahler's face matched the face of the man caught on surveillance cameras as he robbed the bank, mlive.com reported. By March 7, FBI was already staking out Bahler's home in Pontiac, which they also identified through pictures on Facebook.

FBI saw Bahler leave his house the same day and enter a car with another person. Authorities followed the vehicle and arrested Bahler during a traffic stop, mlive.com reported. The submachine gun was found in a duffle bag inside the car. Authorities later searched his home and found the clothes he wore during the robbery.

Bahler confessed to the robbery and was charged with bank robbery and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, mlive.com reported.

Bahler also confessed to committing two other bank robberies. One was in February when he took $4,300 from Genisys Credit Union. The other was on March 4 at a Bank of America branch where he left with $4,000.

Bahler is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Detroit for a detention hearing on March 11, mlive.com reported.
