A couple in Montana accused of letting a two-year-old boy smoke marijuana pleaded not guilty to charges this week, NBC News reported.
Lucas Keith Wilson appeared in court on Monday and Camilla Rose Samuels was in court on Tuesday. Both pleaded not guilty to felony and misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
However, prosecutors say both Wilson and Samuels admitted to allowing the boy smoke marijuana a total of five times since August to make him "mellow."
An investigation into the couple began in August after Samuels' mother told authorities she saw a video on her daughter's phone of Wilson's son putting a pipe in his mouth. Additionally, official documents say the couple recently had a baby that tested positive for marijuana and meth when he was born.
On Wednesday, Wilson remained in jail on $50,000 bond.
In January, a two-year-old girl in Colorado tested positive for marijuana.
When Aida Hernandez noticed her daughter, Evelyn, seemed weak, she immediately took her to the hospital where tests showed she had ingested pot, which is legal in the state.
However, Evelyn's mother claimed the incident occurred after her daughter ate a cookie she found on the grass outside of their apartment, which she reportedly took away from Evelyn immediately.
While local authorities believe the mother, they decided to pursue an investigation. However, after searching her house, they found no evidence of marijuana.
"It's everywhere now that it's legal they have it everywhere," Hernandez said to CBS News, referring to the state's legalization of marijuana.
