'Batman vs. Superman' (Man of Steel 2) Update: Batsuit Is 'Very Tight,' But Costume Has 'Logic' To It; Film's Script Still Isn't Complete

"Batman vs. Superman" costume designer Michael Wilkinson and actor Jeremy Irons are dishing details about the upcoming "Man of Steel 2" production.

Wilkinson explained his design process in a new interview with Esquire magazine. The designer left no detail untouched, including how to handle the new superhero suits' crotch area.

"When you're designing superhero suits, it all comes down to the crotch. And if you're doing a female superhero, the bust," Wilkinson told Esquire. "You have to present things in an appealing way but something that's not too confronting and has the right tone for the film. It's something where you have to use all of your costuming skills to find that balance."

As for Wilkinson's vision for the Batsuit, the designer couldn't confirm or deny the existence of nipples, but did tell Esquire the design was heavily discussed with director Zack Snyder.

"[Snyder] has such a great vision for this film, the cinematic universe that we're creating together with the production designer and the cinematographer," Wilkinson said. "It has a logic to it. It's very tight. It's a very gritty, real, contemporary world. That's what I had in the back of my mind when I tried to think of a Batman that works for that universe."

Batman isn't the only "Man of Steel 2" character getting a new costume; Henry Cavill's Superman outfit is also getting a redesign for the film. The designer confirmed the photos of the actor's new costumes will be released before the film.

"...We're doing a few tweaks to the Superman suit. We want to make sure, again, that it's updated and feels fresh and right for this installment of Zack Snyder's comic-book universe," Wilkinson told Esquire.

The designer added there were multiple design concepts for each superhero costume in the film.

"It's different for each character, but I think for the Superman suit we had about 18 of them for Man of Steel," he added. "There are also some stunt scenarios you have to get ready for. Let alone the wear and tear of a four-month shoot. You have to be ready for anything."

"Batman vs. Superman" hits theaters on May 6, 2016.

Another person close to the "Batman vs. Superman" production is dishing on set details. Actor Jeremy Irons is slated to take on the role of Alfred Pennyworth in the upcoming film, but isn't entirely sure what's going on with the script.

"The script isn't entirely finished," Irons told Variety.

While the actor didn't divulge any more details about the upcoming production, he did praise his new Batman, Ben Affleck.

"I think (his casting) is a wonderful idea. He's a lovely man and an interesting actor," Irons told. "I'm looking forward to getting to know him. I've only met him once."
