Costco Recalls Dried Fruit Believed To Be Contaminated With Salmonella

Oregon Freeze Dry, Inc. of Albany has voluntarily recalled 59,780 cases of Kirkland Signature Real Sliced Fruit due to a possible Salmonella contamination. The product is exclusively sold at Costco Wholesale stores.

Those who may have purchased the product were contacted by phone and US. Mail and a letter was published letter from the company on the Costco website, an FDA new release reported. The product was also removed from Costco shelves.

"Oregon Freeze Dry is committed to the families who enjoy our products every day. We employ a rigorous and robust product-testing regimen. We have taken this precautionary step because of our commitment to these values. If you have this specific product, please do not consume it. Return it immediately to your local Costco for a full refund," the letter stated.

There have not been any reported illnesses from this product reported at this time, other products from the company have been tested and are not contaminated.

The freeze-dried sliced fruit is sold in red and white cases that contain 20 pouches of the product. Those who have purchased this product with Best Before dates (located in the upper left corner) between Feb. 14 2015 and March 11 2015 are urged to return the products immediately.

The fruit was sold in Costco Wholesale stores located in "Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Puerto Rico," the news release reported.

"The recalled products may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious infections in young children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain," the news release reported.
