California Deputy Sheriff Hangs From Helicopter, Rescues Dog Stranded on Cliff (VIDEO)

A daring California law enforcement official saved the life of a labrador that was stuck on a cliff while hanging from a helicopter, according to a report by USA Today.

A deputy sheriff from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office in Northern California dangled from "Henry-1" on Saturday afternoon in order the resuce the canine, who was stranded halfway down a 90-foot cliff.

The canine, named Oreo, was reportedly trapped on a ledge about 2-feet wide and could barely shift his body without risking a potentially fatal fall. The sheriff's department's statement reported a helicopter was called to Portuguese Beach at around 1:46 p.m.

Oreo's owner first notified authorities of the situation, according to the department's report on Sunday.

Deputy Sheriff in Sonoma County Henry Boustany hung from the helicopter by the end of a 100-foot "long line" dangling from inside the helicopter, which was flown by pilot Paul Bradley.

Bradly navigated the aircraft to the small ledge where the dog stood. Boustany then took hold of the dog's chest harness. The canine was transported to the cliff's top in the span of about three minutes, the sheriff's department reported.

"The dog and I got to know each other real quick," Boustany said during an interview with the Press Democrat. "I think the dog just wanted to be out of there."

A crowd of people watched the event, which was caught on video from a camera housed in the belly of the helicopter.
