NY Jets Rumors: Rex Ryan ‘Pissed’ About Free Agency; Many Unhappy With GM Idzik, Who ‘Operates On His Own Time & Schedule’

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is reportedly "pissed" about not signing a top cornerback, such as Darrelle Revis or Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, in free agency. Part of the failure is supposedly because of Jets general manager John Idzik, whose slow-moving style is reportedly "wearing thin" on those in the front office.

The Jets wanted to upgrade their secondary with a big-name cornerback. Revis, who ultimately signed with the New England Patriots last week, reportedly wanted to return to the Jets -- something Idzik didn't pursue. Rogers-Cromartie, the other top cornerback in free agency, visited the Jets twice before choosing to sign with the New York Giants.

After failing to sign a top cover corner, Ryan wasn't happy.

"Rex is pissed," a friend of his told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Part of the Jets' failure to nab a corner in free agency is reportedly because of Idzik, who is now in his second year at the helm.

"They're slow," a person who negotiated with the Jets in the past week told The News. "John's going to be very meticulous. He's going to allow the market to come to him rather than him go out and create the market."

Other sources told The News Idzik works at "glacial speed," is stubborn and is often unwilling to compromise and meet in the middle for deals, something that is reportedly beginning to annoy some in the Jets' front office after missing out on Rogers-Cromartie.

"...Idzik's rigid and methodical style already is wearing thin within the walls at One Jets Drive after the Giants out-smarted and out-maneuvered him to land free-agent cornerback Dominique Rogers-Cromartie on Monday," Mehta wrote Monday night. "... (Rogers-Cromartie) visited the Jets Friday and Saturday, but Idzik, whose deliberate style has drawn criticism across the league and within his own organization since the start of free agency last week, couldn't close the deal."

"(Idzik) operates on his own time and schedule," one member of the Jets told The News. "It's unbelievable."

The Jets' biggest free agency move to date was the signing of receiver Eric Decker. The team is reportedly considering re-signing Antonio Cromartie, who they cut last week, to bolster their depth at corner.
