Real Madrid is all but set to advance after their 6-1 win against Schalke in the first round. Despite being the overwhelming favorite to win, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is adamant his club walks away with a win on Tuesday to keep their confidence high for Sunday's big game against Barcelona.
"The team is fine, and playing well against Schalke is the best way to prepare for the Clasico," Ancelotti said, via IB Times. "In the Liga, we have a small lead, but it's different in the UEFA Champions League or Copa Del Ray. We have to play a good game (on Tuesday) because it's an important UEFA Champions League match and we must keep our good form going. We have to respect our work, the competition and our opponents."
While Schalke is unlikely to advance, Tuesday's game offers the young players of the squad a chance to gain experience going toe-to-toe with one of the world's top teams.
"We have a young team and this match can be a good experience," boss Jens Keller said. "We have to do better than in the home game. We must be more compact and not let our opponents grow. We are going to try to do our best."
