The boyfriend of a woman whose daughter was found dead on Sunday is facing murder charges in connection to her death, NBC Chicago reported.
James Harris, 23, is expected to make a court appearance on Thursday for allegedly killing 19-month-old Ameriah Roberson in the Chicago suburb of Riverdale.
On Sunday, Roberson was reported missing around 5:30 p.m. Two hours earlier, her body was discovered in a wooded area but her identity was not immediately known.
An autopsy report concluded the toddler died of a subdural hematoma and assault, prompting police to determine the case as a "death investigation."
On Monday night, authorities began questioning Harris and Roberson's mother. By Wednesday, Harris admitted that he killed the girl and dumped her body.
Bernadette Mason, Roberson's grandmother, said Harris claimed he left the toddler inside of his car. When he returned, she had disappeared, he claimed.
Chicago Police worked the case with Riverdale police, Illinois State Police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.
