Free agent quarterback Michael Vick is expected to visit the New York Jets sometime this week. Vick reportedly believes he has a chance to supplant incumbent quarterback Geno Smith, NJ.com reports.
Vick, who last season lost his starting job with the Philadelphia Eagles to Nick Foles, is reportedly scheduled to visit the Jets this week.
"Vick is planning on visiting the Jets, and it could come as early as Friday, a source close to the situation has told NJ.com,"Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com wrote on Wednesday. "... Vick is looking for a starting job, but the Jets - while they won't declare the quarterback situation settled - seem committed to second-year Geno Smith.
"Even if Vick is not handed the starting job, he probably believes he could beat out Smith in an open competition."
The Jets are Vick's preferred team to sign with, according to both NJ.com and the New York Post, and the feeling is reportedly mutual.
"The Jets are looking for someone to play behind Geno Smith and possibly take over if he stumbles," Brian Costello of the New York Post wrote on Wednesday. "They are also interested in free agents Michael Vick and Shaun Hill.
"Vick is believed to be the Jets' top choice, and there is mutual interest, according to sources. But Vick is going to take his time and see how the quarterback landscape develops, according to a source."
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills are also interested in the veteran.
Vick, 33, played the past five seasons in Philadelphia and became a free agent in March.
