Dallas Police have located a vehicle in Northeast Dallas that they think was responsible for death of a 7-year-old child.
Melany Valdez was killed in a hit-and-run on Tuesday night, CBS' local station in Dallas reported.
Law enforcement officials stated the 7-year-old was playing with a friend in the street when she darted into traffic.
Valdez and another unidentified young person were in the 6900 block of Hemlock Avenue when the young girl ran into the street, just as a car headed northbound rolled onto the block.
Eyewitnesses told police officers that the young girl was hit by a black 2008 Chrysler on Hemlock Avenue, just off of Park Lane. The driver reportedly sped off, continuing on Hemlock Avenue without stopping to help the fallen child.
One eyewitness who saw the car strike Valdez followed the vehicle into a closed off area with a series of apartment complexes. Local police collaborated with the witness in hopes of finding the driver, but could not locate the person who hit the 7-year-old. They did, however, find the Chrysler.
Another passerby who saw the entire incident rushed Valdez to Presbyterian Hospital. Medical officials later pronounced her dead, WFAA reported on Wednesday.
Valdez attended Jack Lowe Elementary, where she was a first grade student.
A description of the suspect's physical appearance has not yet been released.
