Frontman for Christian metal band As I lay Dying has been arrested on allegations he attempted to have his estranged wife killed.
Lead singer Tim Lambesis allegedly asked an undercover detective Tuesday to murder his ex-wife Meggan, according to a news release from San Diego Police. The singer's wife filed for divorce in September, NBC News reports.
San Diego Police learned of the metal singer's plot for murder Thursday, according to reports.
Lambesis founded the Grammy-nominated band As I Lay Dying in San Diego in 2001. In 2008 they were nominated for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance for their song "Nothing Left" off the album "An Ocean Between Us." The group has been on tour for their album "Awakened" released in September.
Lambesis speaks openly on his Christian faith and lyrical influences. He discussed the inspirations for his recent album on the band's website.
"On this record, I wasn't purposefully trying to be negative, but I think sometimes we have to be honest with some of the darker and more difficult times of our lives to get back to that positivity," he said. "While the lyrics do perhaps seem like a dark window into my soul, they're written that way specifically because I want to move on and transcend those difficult moments in life."
Lambesis also fronts a side project tribute to Arnold Swarzenegger called Austrian Death Machine and was featured on the show "LA Link" when he got a "rocking Jesus" tattoo.
But some say Lambesis may have gone through a more recent ideals metamorphosis.
"He's not the idealistic young Christian kid he once was, apparently," SoundDiego contributor Tim Pyles, of FM 94/9, told NBCSanDiego.com. "Because that's what (As I Lay Dying) are: a straight-edged Christian metal band. He was a nice guy. I've had him on my show a couple times over the years. I just spoke to him via Facebook the last couple months about having him come on to talk about his latest record."
