Mother Delivers Healthy Baby During Bike Crash, Dies on Spot

A baby was born in China unhurt in a bike crash that killed his parents, Tuesday.

The infant, dubbed a "miracle baby" was born after his parents on a bike were killed after being hit by a vehicle in Xiamen City, southeast China.

According to one officer who witnessed the accident, the baby was lying five metres away from his mother's body. Other witnesses said that the impact of the accident for the woman into labor and she delivered on the spot.

"The baby moved his legs and arms and cried out. We immediately rescued the new born baby," said Lyu Yiwen, of Xiamen Haicang Traffic Police Brigade, reports Sky NEWS. "The vehicle incident made us feel life is fragile, but the new born baby touched us with the miracle and the greatness of life. So, we are all in awe of this new born life."

The infant was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

"The baby arrived in the hospital emergency department at 9:30am with numerous bruises, so was sent for further examination. Following consultation, the boy was found to have no major problems," Haicang hospital staff told reporters.

The doctors said the baby survived minor cuts and bruises. Reportedly, father Mao Zhau was rushing his heavily pregnant wife to the hospital for delivery when the accident took place, reports the South China Morning Post. Wang Zhau was in the passenger seat when the truck crashed into the bike.

According to a hospital spokesman, the baby weighs 9lb 2oz (4.2kg) and is in a stable condition.

"At the current time, the baby is suffering from intracranial hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage and brachial plexus injury. After consultation, we think the baby is also suffering from lung contusion which can be life-threatening. We must keep a close watch on him," he said.

According to Mirror.co.uk, news of the miracle birth has made headlines in China. People from all over are sending in presents and donations for the newly-orphaned child.

Police detained the car driver after the accident.
