A 39-year-old father of two was fatally shot on an MTA bus in New York City on Thursday, NBC News reported.
According to witness accounts, a 14-year-old boy on the B15 bus in Brooklyn opened fire at Angel Rojas around 6:20 p.m. Rojas was reportedly caught in the middle of an altercation that broke out between other boys on the bus.
"They sounded like Roman candles, like fireworks. One shot, then four repeated shots after that," said Tiger Frazier, a local resident who recorded some of the incident on a cellphone. "You're on the city bus coming home from work, expecting to see your family and don't know it's your last day -- it's ridiculous."
When the bus made a stop at Greene Avenue, the gunman ran off. However, members of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corps happened to be across the stress and quickly ran over to the bus.
"It was absolute hysteria," instructor Shanida Robinson told NBC News. "People were sitting around the gunshot patient, and there were also people around the scene who weren't sure what was happening, weren't sure where the perpetrator was at the time."
Robinson said volunteers administered CPR on Rojas, who was eventually transported to Woodhull Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they have one person in custody but are not sure if the person is the suspect. However, a firearm was recovered from the scene.
