A robbery suspect was fatally shot by police in Maryland along Interstate 95 on Friday morning, CBS News reported.
The incident began when authorities responded to a call about a possible burglary at a Target in Aberdeen. One officer was injured when the suspect drove his car into a police vehicle before escaping from the scene.
Both local and state police participated in the chase, which went in both north and southbound directions of I-95. It finally ended on the southbound entrance ramp to the Maryland House rest stop, where the suspect was shot.
The suspect was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma and later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released the name of the suspect.
Additionally, the ramp leading to the rest stop will be closed as the investigation continues. However, the Maryland State Police say traffic should not be affected.
Earlier this month, a two-year construction project was announced for I-95 in Maryland. The $66 million project will remove and replace concrete deck and roadway joints of the elevated highway between Caton Avenue and Fort McHenry Tunnel, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.
According to the Baltimore Sun, lane closures will be restricted to off-peak hours when major events are not scheduled and lanes will be reduced by one foot. Additionally, shoulders will be taken away in some areas.
