Authorities announced they have a suspect in custody following the lockdown issued at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Sunday, WNCN reported.
According to officers, the suspect was arrested on East Franklin Street and was armed with knives.
No injuries have been reported and an "all clear" was issued to the school, according to WITN-TV.
The university sent out an alert via email and text message notifying students and faculty of an "armed and dangerous" individual on or near campus, prompting a shelter in place.
In addition to the notice, school officials also activated sirens, which they use "when there is a significant emergency or immediate health or safety threat to the campus community."
