Federal prosecutors said in trial that Joseph Savage, a convicted child molester also accused of sending a threatening letter to President Obama, mailed the threat to the wrong address, the Washington Post reported.
Savage, 34, mailed the letter from Fayette County Prison in October 2012 as he awaited trial, prosecutors said. However, he addressed it to 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue, which is two blocks away from the actual address at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
In the letter, he wrote about torturing and killing Obama and his family once he is released from prison, WPIX said.
According to court records, Savage does not have listed legal represenatation and the public defender who worked for him in a previous trial would not return a call for comment by the Post.
Savage was scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate in Pittsburgh for the threat charges on Monday. He is already serving 12 1/2 to 25 years in prison for molestation.
If he is convicted of his new charges, he could face life in prison.
