James Rebhorn Dies At 65, 'Homeland' And 'Scent Of A Woman' Actor Loses Battle Against Skin Cancer

James Rebhorn, the prolific actor whose long list of roles in major films and TV shows included "Homeland," "Independence Day," and "Scent of a Woman," died on Friday. He was 65, CNN reported.

After waging a long battle with skin cancer, Rebhorn died at his home in South Orange, New Jersey, Dianne Busch, his representative agent, said on Sunday.

"He died on Friday at home with his loving family in attendance," his representative, Dianne Busch, told CNN.

Although the Philadelphia-born actor was diagnosed in 1992 with melanoma, he continued to work until the last months of his life, the Associated Press reported.

"In five decades of television and film work, Rebhorn amassed more than 100 credits, ranging from a shipping magnate in the Matt Damon film "The Talented Mr. Ripley" to the prosecutor in the series finale of the TV comedy "Seinfeld," in which he famously sent the group to jail," the AP reported.

In popular TV roles, he played Claire Danes' CIA officer Carrie Mathison's father on Showtime's "Homeland." In the "White Collar" series, he featured in a recurring role as the head of an FBI white-collar crime unit on USA Network.

Rebhorn's other works included "The Game," ''Real Steel," ''Law & Order," ''Carlito's Way," "Meet the Parents," and "My Cousin Vinny."

He earned his masters in acting from Columbia and performed some early screen acting with regular roles on several soaps, including "Search for Tomorrow" and "As the World Turns," CNN reported.

Starring on Broadway in revivals of "Our Town," ''12 Angry Men" and the original 1985 production of "I'm Not Rappaport," Rebhorn also enjoyed performing in theater.

"His movie career earned Rebhorn an invitation to become a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences in 2007," CNN reported.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Linn, and two daughters.
