Former teen idol David Cassidy was ordered to enter alcohol rehab for three months after pleading no contest to a drunken driving charge in Los Angeles on Monday, according to the Associated Press.
A judge also sentenced Cassidy to five years of probation in a drunken driving case, the AP reported.
The singer-actor blew .19 on an alcohol test administered by the officer who stopped his rented Chevrolet Impala, twice the legal limit, according to a California Highway Patrol statement, the AP reported. It was his second DUI arrest in six months and third since 2011.
Cassidy's attorney, Steven Graff Levine, entered an open plea to a Los Angeles judge Monday, admitting that he was driving under the influence when he was arrested in January after making an illegal turn, according to the AP.
Levine says Cassidy has been in rehab and will remain for longer than his sentence requires, the AP reported. He says Cassidy is committed to his sobriety and wants to break the cycle that got him arrested for drunken driving twice in less than six months.
A DUI case in New York was reduced from a felony to misdemeanor earlier this month, according to the AP. Cassidy appeared on TV's "The Partridge Family."
Cassidy, 63, must also pay fines and take part in a nine-month alcohol education program, the AP reported.
He was arrested after a California Highway Patrol officer stopped him for making an illegal turn at a red light near the Los Angeles International Airport in January, according to the AP.
