Microsoft executives are trying to make some money by selling their "I Made This" employee edition white Xbox One on eBay for three to seven times more than the console's commercial price.
Xbox One generated an impressive response since its launch last November but failed to outperform Sony's PS4 in terms of sales. Analysts said the extra $100 on Xbox One's price tag compared to PS4 pressurized Microsoft to push those extra units to beat Sony. But a handful of Microsoft employees are trying their luck at making some extra cash out of their elite consoles. According to a report from PC Mag, ten white versions of Xbox One appeared on eBay for a price three to seven times more than the console's original retail price.
What's so different about these consoles you might ask? Microsoft handed free white-and-silver version of its gaming console to full-time workers at Redmond on Xbox One launch day. These consoles were built exclusively for internal distribution and the white Xbox One console didn't actually hit the commercial market.
One of the gaming consoles listed on eBay comes with a white controller, black Kinect sensor, one year of Xbox Live along with basic accessories including headset, power supply and cables that come in the box. The box also carries a Special Thank You card from Microsoft Xbox Management and a Special Day One Achievement code. To get a more personalized feel, Microsoft also printed "I Made This" in front of the machine. The console is listed for $1,800 with free shipping to any U.S. address. The device is up for grabs before April 1 and the seller has declined 15 offers so far.
Another Employee Edition White Xbox One on eBay goes for $3,566. In addition to all the packed accessories, one sealed Forza Day One Edition and a Dead Rising 3 Day One Edition is included.
Microsoft launched the latest Xbox One gaming console last November. The impressive sales of the Xbox One broke the record of its predecessor by 61 percent in February, the software giant said. According to the NPD Group, Microsoft sold 258,000 units in the U.S. throughout February and is expected to boost further when the console launches in 26 new markets in September. The Microsoft gaming console will arrive in India, Japan, Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia and UAE among other markets. So far, the Redmond giant sold about 3.5 million units since its launch.
For those who are looking to buy the console at a discounted rate, Wal-Mart and Best Buy are offering the Xbox One bundle with a digital copy of Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall for just $449.
