Actress Jeanne Cooper, famous for her enduring role in "The Young and the Restless" died on Wednesday in her LA home. She was 84.
The actress, who by the time of her death still made appearances in the show, passed away while sleeping, said her son, the actor Cobin Bernsen, in a Facebook post.
Cooper joined the "The Young and the Restless" six months after CBS started broadcasting it, and stood as the longest-serving cast member.
In the show, Cooper played Katherine Chancellor, the fabulously wealthy matriarch of fictitious Genoa City, Wis.
The show is shot six weeks in advance, and the production is yet to decide how Ms. Cooper's character will be written out of the show, a CBS spokeswoman said on Wednesday, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Some would say that Cooper played her life Katherine and vice-versa. When Cooper underwent a face-lift in 1984, it immediately became Katherine's face-lift as well, with footage of Ms. Cooper's actual surgery incorporated into the broadcast.
However, some would argue that the two women diverged in certain vital aspects. Compared with the Katherine, Cooper had a far wealthier Anglo-Saxon vocabulary, which she generally exercised in interviews.
Cooper made guest appearances on "L.A. Law," playing the mother of her son's character, Arnie Becker.
Cooper married television producer Harry Bernsen, Jr. and they were together for twenty-three years before divorcing. They had three children, all of whom are actors.
