Michigan State coach Tom Izzo doesn't plan to head to the NBA next season. After a report on Tuesday indicated the Detroit Pistons would pursue him in the offseason, Izzo quickly put the rumors to rest by saying he's happy with the Spartans job.
"There's been so many rumors over the years," Izzo said on Tuesday during a "SportsCenter" interview. "I look at people I used to recruit against years ago [who] said that I'd be gone, but I'm still here and some of those schools have had three different coaches.
"I've always said I'd never say never to anything because you never know what it brings. But I got so much more work to do here. I have a great president, a great AD and a football coach that I really get along [with]. So this is a pretty good place for me right now. We're in a pretty good spot. Program's in pretty good shape.
"Ain't broke, so why fix it?"
USA Today Sports reported earlier on Tuesday that Pistons owner Tom Gores would try to hire Izzo in the offseason as the team's next head coach, replacing interim coach John Loyer.
Izzo, 59, and fourth-seeded Michigan State play first-seeded Virginia on Friday in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
The Izzo-led Spartans have earned a NCAA Tournament for 17 straight seasons, according to ESPN. Izzo has a 467-186 record and one title (1999-2000) in his 19 seasons with Michigan State.
