California State Sen. Leland Yee Indicted For Public Corruption

California state Sen. Leland Yee was indicted for public corruption on Wednesday, ABC News reported.

According to local media reports, several arrests are being made in connection to the case involving gang members. Search warrants are also being executed by the FBI in California's Bay Area.

"At this time we are not elaborating due to the need for agent safety," FBI spokeswoman Gina Swankie said.

Dan Lieberman, a spokesman for the Democratic legislator, said he had no information but would provide a statement later in the today, the Sacramento Bee said.

The state senator's offices in both San Francisco and Sacramento are being raided and have been blocked off by authorities since 7 a.m.

Yee, a child psychologist, has served in the Assembly and the Senate and is running for Secretary of State.

He is reportedly in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

In addition to Yee, two other Democratic state senators -- Rod Wright and Ron Calderone -- are on leaves of absense and under criminal investigation.
