Police in Maryland are searching for a man who injured officers during his arrest and escaped in the process, WUSA 9 reported.
Edwin Fletcher, 31, is described as a black male, standing at 6'2" and weighing around 160 pounds, according to Maryland State Police.
The incident occurred at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, when officers surrounded Fletcher -- wanted of felony drug charges -- in a parking lot during an undercover investigation. When police pulled up, he was in his truck with another person.
Police said the driver, suspected to be Fletcher, drove into two police vehicles in an attempt to flee the scene. Though officers opened fire at his car, he was able to escape. His truck was later found on Camden Avenue.
The state trooper and Wicomico County sheriff's deputy were both transported to nearby hospitals, treated, and released. They will be on leave as they recover from their unspecificed injuries, police said.
State, county, and city officers are continuing the search for Fletcher and are being assisted by the Maryland State Apprehension Team -- a group of police investigators skilled in locating fugitives.
Anyone with information on Fletcher's whereabouts is asked to call 911.
