Zac Efron Attacked And Punched By Homeless Men In L.A. Brawl

Zac Efron was attacked and punched in the face after throwing a bottle out of his parked car at a homeless man on Sunday night, UPI reported.

After being stranded in a sketchy part of downtown Los Angeles, the "High School Musical" star and his bodyguard were waiting for a tow truck since their car had run out of gas, TMZ reported.

Law enforcement officials came across Efron and his bodyguard in a violent brawl with three other people as they were patrolling the Harbor Freeway, they told TMZ.

After breaking up the fight between the transients and Efron, the 26-year-old actor was questioned by the police.

"He said the incident began after Efron and his companion threw a bottle out the car's window prompting the transients to confront them," UPI reported. "Efron said he got out of the car after realizing two of the men were attacking his bodyguard. At that point, he got hit in the mouth."

The group of people came over to the car to confront them as they thought the bottle was being thrown at them, Just Jared reported.

"It was the hardest I've ever been hit in my life," Efron reportedly told authorities.

Although no arrests were made by the police, sources claim that Efron was intoxicated during Sunday's confrontation. The police called the altercation a "mutual combat."

The actor celebrated six months of sobriety three months ago. In April 2013, he was allegedly in rehab for cocaine addiction and drug problems.

FOX411s' e-mail to Efron's rep was not immediately returned.

Efron was spotted filming a sketch for a secret project alongside "Neighbors" co-star Seth Rogen and football player Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday. Despite the brawl, his face appeared to be normal in a photo tweeted (then deleted) by a producer who works for MTV, Just Jared reported.
