Twitter Experiments With Share Button Instead Of ReTweet And Photo Tagging

Twitter is reportedly experimenting with replacing retweets with a "share" button causing some Twitter users to express opinion about the change, according to CNET.com

Although nothing has changed aside from the text on the retweet/share button in some people's iOS apps, users have already their social media outrage, CNET.com reported.

More significant changes, however, came this week when Twitter started allowing users to tag people in photos without using any of your precious characters and also experimenting with removing @ replies entirely, according to CNET.com.

Both moves are a seismic shift in the way the normally constrained service works, leading to accusations that the more free-form nature of Twitter is becoming too much like Facebook, CNET.com reported.

Twitter's head of news Vivian Schiller hinted last week, the idea is to strip away all the clutter from your tweets, making the whole service a lot easier for beginners to grasp, according to CNET.com, showing their focus on garnering new users, and not just about keeping the old ones active and happy.

Twitter is no stranger to experimentation. Back in September, Twitter said in a blog post that it's constantly experimenting with new features, and in many cases, those functions never go beyond the stage of experimentation, CNET.com reported.

"It's rare for a day to go by when we're not releasing at least one experiment," wrote Alex Roetter, Twitter's vice president of engineering at the time, according to CNET.com.
