David Moyes Is New Manager Of Manchester United, Replaces Alex Ferguson

David Moyes signed a six-year deal to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as the Manchester United Football Club's new manager.

Moyes, the current Everton manager, will finish the last two Premier League games of the season with Everton. His start date with United is July 1, according to CNN.

"It's a great honor to be asked to be the next manager of Manchester United," Moyes told United's official website.

The 50-year old has managed the Everton club since 2002. He never won a championship with Everton, but his teams were always competitive.

"I have had a terrific job at Everton, with a tremendous chairman and Board of Firectors and a great set of players," Moyes said. "Between now and the end of the season, I will do everything in my power to make sure we finish as high as possible in the table."

Moyes will have big shoes to fill on July 1. Ferguson, who retired on Wednesday, won 38 trophies in his 26-year career as United's manager. Ferguson's list of accomplishments includes 13 Premier League championships, two Champion League titles and five FA cups.

"I am delighted that Sir Alex saw fit to recommend me for the job," Moyes said. "I have great respect for everything he has done and for the football club. I know how hard it will be to follow the best manager ever, but the opportunity to manage Manchester United isn't something that comes around very often and I'm really looking forward to taking up the post next season."

Expectations will be high. Moyes is inheriting a talented United squad that two weeks ago won the Premier League title.

Moyes informed Everton on Wednesday of his decision to join Manchester. Everton released a statement shortly after to thank Moyes for his contributions and to announce the start to find their next manager.
