Although most NFL coaches and analysts raved about Johnny Manziel's pro day, Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was unimpressed and called it "a sideshow." Jacksonville Jaguars coach Gus Bradley and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith liked what they saw, which included a variety of throws from both in and out of the pocket.
Manziel completed 61 of 64 scripted passes while in pads during his pro day on Thursday. Most of those in attendance were impressed by Manziel's mechanics and throws from the pocket -- except for Zimmer, who thought the quarterback's pro day felt too "choreographed" and too focused on style.
"The huddles and the different things and the music. The sideshow stuff," Zimmer said, via the Houston Chronicle. "It was a sideshow. ... This one was a little different in how it was choreographed. People like that or they don't like that, I don't know."
Manziel's pro day did draw a crowd. 75 officials, including eight head coaches and eight general managers, from 30 teams attended the pro day at Kyle Field. Even former President George H.W. Bush attended, according to ESPN.
At least two of the coaches present, Bradley and Love, were impressed by Manziel's showing.
"The atmosphere and everything that was involved and then to come out and perform like he did, that was great," Bradley said. "I think that's no different than how he's performed all year, right? Perform under pressure. Felt like more of a pressurized environment with a lot of eyes watching him and he did a great job."
Smith walked away from Manziel's pro day believing the signal caller could do it all.
"Pretty much like I thought he would do. He's been a great player for a long time," said Smith. "The guy's a football player. He can do it all. That's impressive. Most guys come out in T-shirts, so coming out made a statement throwing it in pads. Accurate. Great mobility. Then, he has great video. There are a lot of things to like about him."
Highlights from Manziel's pro day include: throwing in pads, a cameo from a former president, multiple Drake songs and a wide range of throws.
