Florida-Bound JetBlue Flight Diverts To JFK Airport After Bird Strike

A JetBlue flight heading to Florida from New York diverted to JFK International Airport after a bird struck the plane on Thursday, NBC News reported.

The plane, which took off from White Plains at 8:53 a.m., declared the emergency around 9:30 a.m. and landed safely at JFK at 9:55 a.m.

The airline said the flight's captain made the decision to land at JFK "out of an abundance of caution."

No injuries were reported among the 142 passengers or crew members.

After the landing, passengers were given the choice to head back to White Plains or hop on a second flight flying to West Palm Beach.

According to the FAA, this is the first reported bird strike in 2014. Last year, Westchester reported 22 bird strikes -- down from 44 in 2012.

Additionally, eight of the bird strikes in 2012 and 2013 involved a JetBlue flight.
