Facebook announced the launch of a new version of its "Home" application and confirmed downloads for the app had reached the one million mark.
Facebook released its new "Home" app a month ago but it wasn't received with much enthusiasm and users continuously found faults and lodged complaints about the application. Though Facebook confirmed that the app has reached its first one million downloads, experts are still skeptical about how long the app will survive in the current competitive market.
In response to the numerous complaints coming in from the users, Facebook announced the update and launch of a new version of "Home" Thursday, which promises to solve all users' issues. Though the new version went live at 1 PM yesterday on Google Play, users were not able to see it till 3 PM in the afternoon.
Facebook VP of Engineering Cory Ondrejka revealed that the company is currently working on improving the product and new updates will be released in the coming weeks. However, this new version will fix all bugs in the app.
Facebook Director of Product Adam Mosseri said the company has taken complaints from users into consideration as it moves forward with updates to the product.
"The clear signal is: missing launching features, and not being able to rearrange the apps," he said.
He said that the company is not bothered by the low number of downloads the app has received but are concerned if people are actually enjoying the application. Facebook will also add more prompts for new users to provide more instruction when users launch Facebook Home for the first time.
"The idea is that because it's a novel interface, you slowly, gently lead the user into using the interface," Mosseri said.
