Fort Hood Shooter: What We Know So Far About Ivan Lopez

Soldier Ivan Lopez killed three others before shooting himself on Wednesday at the Fort Hood army base in Texas. Few details have been released on the soldier, but here is what officials have said so far, according to The Washington Post.

Ivan Lopez is married and has lived in the Fort Hood area with his family since February after he transferred from another base, the Post reported.

The Unite Lopez was assigned to, the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), is a logistics and support unit, according to the Post.

Though his rank was not released, Officials said on Wednesday Lopez was in the process of leaving the army, the Post reported.

Lopez began complaining of a traumatic head injury after returning from a four month tour in Iraq, but he was never wounded in action, according to official documents, according to the Post.

Lopez was taking several different medications for several health issues and was also receiving psychiatric help for depression and anxiety, the Post reported. Lopez was being tested for post-traumatic stress disorder.

The shooter was a .45 caliber Smith and a Wesson handgun when he began shooting across the Fort Hood army base, according to the Post. The handgun was not registered with post authorities and should not have been on base.

After driving around in a vehicle and shooting in different locations on the base, Lopez shot himself in the parking lot at the base transportation brigade's administration building after being confronted by a military policewoman, the Post reported.
