A man in Florida faked a home burglary to avoid going to work on Monday, CBS News reported.
Dwayne Yeager, 31, was charged with providing false information to local police after he called the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for help, saying his house had been broken into.
"My door's open, my windows to my son's bedroom are wide open," Yeager said in the call to the HCSO non-emergency line. "My TV's in there on the ground."
Yeager allegedly told the dispatcher he witnessed a "kind of little Honda Civic pulling away" pull away from the house when he got home.
When authorities arrived at his house, it appeared it had been ransacked. However, the officers saw no sign of forced entry, CBS Tampa Bay said.
In addition, neighbors claimed they saw Yeager leave his home around 6:30 a.m. and return about an hour later. One neighbor told police he saw him lifting blinds and open the front bedroom window. He also told officers he saw him stand on the front yard until police arrived.
The neighbor added he didn't see a car at the residence, according to CBS Tampa Bay.
After deputies confronted Yeager about the situation, he eventually admitted that the burglary was a hoax to get out of going to work.
"He stated his wife was adamant that he go to work and he didn't want to," the police report said. It also said Yeager did not know he could go to jail for faking a crime.
After real charges were filed, Yeager was booked into Orient Road Jail.
