Penn. Mother Who Drowned Son Allegedly Backed Van Into Kids Months Before

A Pennsylvania mother who drowned one of her sons and severely injured the other on Tuesday allegedly hit them with her car 10 months earlier, Fox News reported.

In an interview with the Associated Press on Wednesday, North Park Church Pastor Dan Hendley said Laurel Michelle Schlemmer backed her van into her three sons at their grandparents house in a nearby town, where they were living at the time.

No charges were filed in the incident, Hendley said.

"There was no concern that there was anything but a terrible accident that occurred in that situation," Hendley said.

Schlemmer, 40, was jailed without bond on Wednesday on charges including criminal homicide and attempted homicide.

Schlemmer allegedly told Allegheny County authorities that she ordered two of her boys to take their pajamas off and get into the tub after putting her 7-year-old son on the school bus around 8:40 a.m.

"Schlemmer said after the boys got into the tub she got into the tub 'fully clothed' and 'crazy voices' were telling her to push the boys into the water," a criminal complaint said. "Schlemmer explained that at one point she (was) sitting on top of the boys while they were under the water in the tub."

According to Fox News, prosecutors are reportedly looking into another incident involving her children but would not specify what.

Schlemmer's 3-year-old son, Luke, was pronounced dead on Tuesday and her 6-year-old son, Daniel, was in critical condition at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

According to court documents, Schlemmer told investigators she believed "she could be a better mother" to her oldest child "if the other two boys weren't around."

Hendley told the AP the Schlemmers seemed to recover from the van incident, which left Daniel with internal injuries and Luke unable to walk for a bit.

Schlemmer is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 11. Additional charges against her include reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, and tampering with physical evidence after allegedly hiding her wet clothes in a trash bag.
