'Today Show' To Display George W. Bush Paintings Of World Leaders

NBC's "Today Show" is scheduled to unveil paintings of world leaders done by former President George W. Bush on Friday, USA TODAY reported.

The artwork includes portraits of Tony Blair, Vladimir Putin, and the Dalai Lama -- all of whom he dealt with while in office.

"I think they're going to be, 'wow. George Bush is a painter,'" Bush told his daughter and Today correspondent Jenna Bush Hager. "I mean, I'm sure when they heard that I was painting -- and if they had -- they're going to say, 'wow, I look forward to seeing a stick figure he painted of me.'"

The former president also said he hopes the leaders "take it in the spirit in which these were painted in. That was the spirit of friendship. And you know, I admire them as leaders and was willing to give it a shot in terms of getting people to see how I felt about them."

The paintings are part of a new exhibit at the Bush library in Dallas, called "The Art of Leadership: A President's Personal Diplomacy." In total, two dozen paintings will be put on display.

Bush also expressed his frustration with the hacker that got into his email account and released some of his artwork in February 2013.

"I was annoyed," he said of the leaked pictures, featuring landscapes, his wife, his late dog, and a portrait of him in the shower. "It's an invasion of one's privacy."

Many people took to Twitter to discuss their thoughts Bush's artwork.

"If George W. Bush has discovered his love of art 11 years ago, he could have just painted a scene from war instead of launching one," Russell Schaffer tweeted.

Others expressed they were impressed.

"George W. Bush actually isn't half bad at art #personalitynotpolitics #goodworkman," said Alex Brehm.
