NYC Man, Isabel Rios, Dies After 'Subway Surfing' On Top Of 6 Train

A New York City man died on Wednesday after allegedly "subway surfing" on top of the 6 train in the Bronx, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Police officers discovered Isabel Rios, 45, on top of the train unconscious and unresponsive, showing signs of blunt trauma to the head.

Rios hit an overhead object as the traincar traveled from the Whitlock Avenue to Elder Avenue stations. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials told the Journal.

Witnesses told authorities they saw Rios climb on top of the train, officials added.

Kevin Ortiz, an MTA employee, told DNAinfo.com that subway surfing "is simply one of the dumbest things you can do. Don't do it."

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) told the Journal that "subway surfing" incidents are rare. Last year, two cases of the act were reported -- one of which resulted in a death.

According to Gothamist, a homeless man died on top of the 6 train while subway surfing in Manhattan in November. That same month, a man was seriously injured after he tried surfing the F train in Gowanus.
