Los Angeles (54-22) heads into Thursday's contest looking for their fifth straight win. While their 112-108 victory on Wednesday against Phoenix secured them the Pacific division, the Clippers have championship expectations and anything less than a deep playoff run would be a disappointment.
"It's nice but it doesn't really mean much," Clippers star Chris Paul said, via ESPN. "We won the division title last year and lost in the first round. Last year we would have gone into the (Phoenix) game knowing we had a chance to win the division. Now we don't care, it's all about the bigger picture."
A big part of the Clippers' success is due to the career-year of star Blake Griffin, who's taken his game to another level with averages of 24.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
Dallas (44-31), meanwhile, is hanging onto the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference. The Mavericks played well after the All-Star break but have struggled recently, losing four of their last seven games, including a 122-120 loss on Tuesday against Golden State.
"It's pretty clear," Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki said. "Win the next game, leave it all out there."
