The Los Angeles Dodgers will reportedly bench star Yasiel Puig in Friday's home opener for arriving late to the ballpark. Matt Kemp will start in Puig's place, CBS Sports reports.
Puig's tardiness on Friday reportedly earned him a seat on the bench against San Francisco.
"Puig benched for being late. Kemp in for him now," CBS Sports' Jon Heyman tweeted on Friday. "Maybe he needs to seek some more advice on how to handle things."
The 23-year-old showed up at the ballpark at 10:26 a.m. and missed about half of the batting practice, Mark Saxon of ESPN reports.
Tardiness has been an issue in the past for Puig. MLB.com reports Puig was "met by club executives as he came off the field at the end of batting practice."
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly declined to address Puig's situation until after the game.
Puig is batting .250 with one homerun and four RBIs this season. He finished 2013 with a .391 batting average, 19 homers and 42 RBIs.
Kemp was activated from the disabled list earlier on Friday.
