A father stabbed his 3-year-old daughter to death before hanging himself, Friday, police said.
Robert Bzdek, 34, of Chicago suburban Woodridge, killed Zuzanna Bzdek by stabbing her several times at their house in the town. He then hanged self to death, police said.
Bzdek's stepson, 17-year-old Emanuel Szyszka, informed police about the incident after he saw blooded footprints leading from the home's master bedroom, reports, The Chicago Tribune. He ried opening the door but, "It turned out the door had been secured with a two-by-four and power tools," Szyszka said.
Police arrived at around 4:30 p.m. Zuzanna was rushed to Edward Hospital and Health Service, Naperville, but was declared brought dead. "I watched as they carried out my limp sister out the door," Syszka said.
Bzdek was declared dead at the scene. Syszka said that he found about the gory details of his sister's murder when the police arrived. "Not until much later did I learn he had stabbed (my) precious Zuzia in the chest before he hung himself," he said.
Police were unable to establish motive for the murder and suicide.
The news shocked the otherwise quiet neighbourhood of Woodridge. According to neighbor Eva Paprocki, Zuzanna "sometimes played dress-up and other games with her little girl since the two were close in age," reports the Examiner.
She described Bzdek to be a loving father. "He was nice," Paprocki told the Tribune. "He loved her very much. He gave her everything always ... He can't say no sometimes."
Zuzanna's mother was in shock after learning about the incident. "She cannot believe it," Paprocki said. "She thinks she's going to wake up and everything's going to be fine."
