Ted Kennedy Jr. Expected To Announce Connecticut State Senate Run

Ted Kennedy Jr., son of the late U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy and nephew of assassinated U.S. President John F. Kennedy, is expected to announce his run for Connecticut state Senate this week, the Huffington Post reported.

Two people close to Kennedy said he plans on officially seeking the Democratic nomination in the state's 12st District on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. Both individuals spoke on condition of anonymity.

A report by the CT Mirror claims Kennedy will make his announcement at the James Blackstone Memorial Library Auditorium at 6 p.m.

Kennedy, 52, is a lawyer and resides in Branford. Within the past few months, he mentioned he was exploring the possibility of a run, HuffPost said. He was also considered a candidate to fill his father's seat in 2009.

The seat is currently filled by Democrat Edward Meyer of Guilford, who is retiring. The district includes Branford, Durham, Guilford, Killingworth, Madison, and North Branford.

Ted Kennedy Jr.'s announcement comes two years after his nephew, Joe Kennedy III, was elected as a U.S. representative in Massachusetts. Prior to that, a Kennedy hadn't held office in 60 years, according to the Washington Post.

Kennedy has degrees from Wesleyan, Yale, and the University of Connecticut. He lives with his wife, Kiki, a Yale psychologist, and two children.
