The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) raised more money than the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) by $1.78 million in March, POLITICO reported.
The DSCC announced on Wednesday that they raised $8.1 million in one month, with a total of $22.2 million cash on hand after paying off left over debt. On the other hand, the NRSC has a total of $15.9 million cash on hand with no debt left either.
Guy Cecil, executive director of the DSCC, noted in a statement that the Koch brothers have donated a lot of money to the GOP which isn't included in the NRSC fundraising numbers. He also emphasized the Democrats plan on spending the funds on grassroots mobilization.
"Republican Senate candidates up and down the map have chosen to advocate for the Koch agenda that's good for billionaire special interests but bad for middle class families across the country," Cecil said.
"As a reward, the Koch Brothers are pouring unprecedented millions into false attack ads aimed at boosting these Republicans, but Democrats have a strong grassroots network and thousands of generous donors across the country helping us raise the resources we need to fight back.
"We need our supporters who care about having a Senate that fights for the middle class to continue to help us win each month and fund the grassroots operations we need to win."
On his Twitter account, Cecil touted the fundraising accomplishment with a little more sarcasm.
"Congrats to the NRSC for the 2nd biggest fundraising haul of any senate campaign committee in March," he tweeted.
In order to win the majority in the Senate, the GOP needs to win six more seats.
By the end of the 2012 election cycle, the DRSC raised $3.2 million more than the NRSC, according to the statement.
