Tsarnaev Burial Site Virginia: Boston Bombing Suspect's Remains Land in Virginia, Citizens Outraged

After police in the Boston area refused to disclose the location of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev's body, the whereabouts of the remains have surfaced: Tamerlan has been buried in a cemetery in Virginia.

This came as an enormous shock to most, including one neighbor who didn't even know she lived near a burial ground, reported CBS News.

Others, including members of the area's Islamic community, were infuriated that the decision was not discussed with the community.

Tamerlan's body was buried at a small Islamic cemetery, ending the search for a location that would take the remains. Most communities were not interested in housing the body, which was stored in a funeral parlor in Worcester, Massachusetts for a few days.

The suspect was killed during a shoot-out car chase with police, as he and his brother Dzhokhar, both of whom were convicted of putting pressure cooker bombs at the finish line and killing three, were trying to escape the law.

Their uncle, Ruslan Tsarni, who currently lives in Maryland, had custody of the body before his nephew was transferred to the Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlor, then to a burial site in Doswell.

He did not have much to say about the burial, only that several friends and family attended-there were never any attempts made to keep the ceremony secret.

"The body's buried," he said. "That's it."

When Tsarni received a call from his brother, Tamerlan's father, the uncle said, "Yes, it's over. He found rest in his own grave."

Police and government officials approached a handful of communities, requesting that they house Tamerlan's body. Nearly all of them refused, including citizens of Cambridge, the city in which the Tsarnaev family lived for a decade.

They announced on Thursday that they successfully found a location to place the body, after a "courageous and compassionate individual came forward to provide the assistance needed to properly bury the deceased."

Imam Ammar Amonette, a member of the Islamic Center of Virginia, said that the entire Muslim community there is "furious."

"Frankly, we are furious that we were never given any information. It was all done secretly behind our backs," adding that it "makes no sense whatsoever," that officials chose Virginia to house Tsarnaev's body.

"It was a total surprise and shock to us," he finished.
