FBI Rescues Kidnapped North Carolina Man In Atlanta

A kidnapped North Carolina man was rescued in Atlanta by the FBI on Wednesday, ABC News reported.

Frank Arthur Janssen, 63, was found safely right before midnight, FBI spokeswoman Shelley Lynch said in a statement. Authorities believe he was the target in a planned kidnapping plot.

On April 5, he was reported missing from his Wake Forest home after going for a bike ride and never returning home. When his wife got back after a day out, she noticed drops of blood and no sign of her husband.

Following an investigation by Wake Forest police, the FBI, and other law enforcement agencies, investigators determined Janssen was being held in an apartment complex in the southeast section of Atlanta.

Though Janssen's family was notified of his rescue, officials mentioned the situation was "active and ongoing" and would not release further details on Thursday morning.

In a phone interview with the AP, Lynch said she could not disclose how the kidnapping occurred, a possible motive, or whether anyone was hurt in the operation.

A local North Carolina TV station learned that Janssen's daughter is an assistant district attorney in Wake County who frequently prosecutes drug and gang crimes. However, a potential connection between her work and her father's kidnapping remains unclear.

Janssen is a military contractor, but investigators do not believe there is a connection between his job and the kidnapping.

A news conference is scheduled at Wake Forest Town Hall at 11 a.m., KSPR said.
