Johnny Manziel reportedly had the highest score among quarterbacks in the 2014 NFL draft class. Manziel, the potential No. 1 pick of the 2014 draft, even reportedly beat the average quarterback score from the class of 2012 - a class that included Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.
Manziel's pro day impressed the majority of scouts and analysts, and now his wonderlic score could push his draft stock even higher. John Middlekauff, a former NFL scout and current co-host of 95.7 The GAME, reports Manziel's wonderlic score was the highest among the quarterbacks in the 2014 draft class.
"I've been told Johnny Football had the highest wonderlic test of all the top QB's (sic) in this years draft," Middlekauff tweeted on Thursday. "Talked to multiple assistant coaches who have had Johnny on private team visits. All raved about his intelligence.
"The avg wonderlic score for a starting QB in '12 was 29, anything above 30 is outstanding. Johnny scored above both numbers."
Manziel, the 2012 Heisman winner, is widely projected to be one of the top three quarterbacks available this year. Different mock drafts have him going either first overall to the Houston Texans, fourth to the Cleveland Browns or eighth to the Oakland Raiders.
ESPN's Mel Kiper published a "Grade: A" value draft - one that didn't make projections - and had Manziel as the first signal caller drafted off the board.
"Here's where I take the plunge at quarterback. For one, while Manziel is a boom-or-bust proposition, he's exactly the type of QB who doesn't give a, um, darn about the bad QB history in Cleveland," Kiper wrote on Thursday. "In fact, it will just push him."
