Following the appointment of former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to the board of Dropbox, users of the storage service are calling for her to step down or be removed, FoxNews.com reported.
A majority of the protest is in response to Rice's support of the National Security Agency's wiretapping during the Bush presidency. The website Drop-Dropbox.com features a variety of concerns, including her role in the Iraq war as well.
"This is deeply disturbing, and anyone - or any business - who values ethics should be concerned," says a blog post the boycott site. "Given everything we now know about the U.S.'s warrantless surveillance program, and Rice's role in it, why on earth would we want someone like her involved with Dropbox, an organization we are trusting with our most important business and personal data?"
The website also includes a list of other cloud storage services for people to use instead of Dropbox, which is currently used by more than 275 million people globally.
However, Dropbox CEO Drew Houston believes having the ex-national security adviser will grow it's international reputation.
"We're honored to be adding someone as brilliant and accomplished as Dr. Rice to our team," Houston wrote on The Dropbox Blog.
Support of the protest has spread on social media sites, spawning the #DropDropbox hash tag of Twitter and collecting thousand of petition signatures.
"Even more glad that I have never used Dropbox. What a farce allowing a woman like that to join the board of your company #DropDropbox," one tweet read.
"I cannot believe how bad this looks: @Dropbox appoints former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to board of directors #DropDropbox," another user tweeted.
When called to comment by Fox News, a Dropbox spokesperson said they had nothing to offer after Houston's statement. A message left at Stanford University, where Rice is currently employed, did not return a call to comment either.
